Unlike many hospices in Canada, Hospice Yukon is not a place where people spend their last days-as we do not have a facility with beds or nursing care. Our skilled and compassionate staff and volunteers offer support to our dying clients wherever they are: at home, in hospital, in Whitehorse care facilities, and in our downtown office.
We offer holistic care to those who are dying and their loved ones through Counselling, Healing Touch and Vigil Support. Our goal is to support the diverse needs of all individuals; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
If you are facing the end of your life and have been told you have less than a year to live, counselling can be so beneficial in helping you to live well until you die. Having someone to talk to outside of family and friends can really support you in exploring some of the questions that arise at end of life.
Healing Touch is a relaxing energy therapy that supports physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. Using gentle touch, it clears and balances the human energy system. Those who are facing end of life find the sessions helpful in relieving pain, reducing anxiety, improving sleep and providing a sense of peace and calm.
Vigil support is sitting bedside and accompanying a dying person during the last week of their life. This service is offered in the continuing care facilities and at the hospital as a support to family members and friends or if there are no loved ones present. Trained Hospice volunteers and staff see it as an honor to offer their presence by sitting bedside with a dying person and are comfortable with the end of life journey and the dying process.
